DEMOGRAPHICS

Four-year Alabama public high school located on 100 acres in the city of Hoover, a residential area south of Birmingham, with approximately 82,000 residents. Spain Park High School opened in 2001, and the charter class graduated in May 2004.

Rank in class and GPA are cumulative for grades 9-12. AP courses are weighted one point per period annually. Pre-AP courses are weighted .25 per period annually. Debate team, math team, scholar’s bowl, and dual enrollment are weighted .50 per period annually.

ACADEMIC AND ATHLETIC DISTINCTION

In its 13-year history, Spain Park High School has won 14 state athletic championships; including the 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 Boys’ Golf State Championship, 2012 Boys’ Indoor Track State Championship and the 2004, 2009 and 2010 Girls’ Soccer State Championship. 

Spain Park High School is the 2008-2009 recipient of The Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence (U.S. Department of Education Secondary Schools Recognition Program) and the 2008-2009 Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Lighthouse Award Winner. 

In 2007, Spain Park High School was awarded the State of Alabama Attorney General’s Safe Schools Initiative Award. In 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 Spain Park High School was recognized by Newsweek Magazine as one of the “Top High Schools in the United States”

In 2014 Spain Park High School was recognized by ACT for College and Career Readiness and ranked in the top 5 nationally.
