Spain Park is currently in the process of becoming a Common Sense Media certified school. Common Sense Schools are dedicated to teaching digital citizenship to young people and to taking a whole-community approach to integrating digital citizenship.

Specifically, this program recognizes schools that provide professional development to their educators, integrate digital citizenship by using the Common Sense Digital Citizenship Curriculum which includes Digital Bytes, and educate parents about media and technology issues.

All Spain Park faculty and administrators are currently completing the Digital Citizenship professional development. Our 9th and 10th graders will be learning more about their digital world by completing two Digital Bytes which are student directed activities that will serve as the E-day curriculum for February and March.

A healthy media diet balances three things: what kids do, how much time they spend doing it, and whether their content choices are age-appropriate. Mixing media and tech time with other activities will help families find that happy medium. See links to two resources from the site that include a Family Media Agreement and Device Contract to set realistic rules that make sense for your family so you and your kids can make the most out of media and tech time.

We hope these are helpful. We will continue to provide parent resources throughout the year. Explore more resources at:
