We would like to share with you the Hoover City Schools plan to address the March 14th Student National Walkout Day. It is essential for you to know the position of HCS, the board, and our superintendent. Dr. Murphy made it clear at the Town Hall meeting that HCS would not allow employees or students to participate in the walkout. Those who participate in the walkout will be considered to have violated the HCS Code of Conduct and will receive consequences. Dr. Murphy has given building principals the latitude to allow a memorial program. She has designated Tuesday, March 13th, 2018 at 10:00 - 10:18 AM as the day we can allow a memorial program honoring the eighteen victims and their families and also to keep the students, faculty, staff, administration, and community of Stoneman Douglas High School as well as Huffman High School in our thoughts and prayers. I believe it is in the best interest of our students to have this student-led program and to use this time to show our compassion for the people affected. We also want to reaffirm our commitment to create, foster, and promote a respectful, inclusive, and safe school environment here at Spain Park.
