Teaching Experience

2002-2015: Shelby County Schools

1995-2002: Jasper City Schools

1991-1995: Glenwood Autism & Behavioral Health Center

Although my initial certification is in secondary social studies, I have spent my entire educational career in the world of special education. I have worked in a variety of settings, from teaching preschool children with developmental delays to working with adolescents in adjudicated settings. The bulk of my experience has been in inclusion settings with Shelby County Schools.

I have also spent twenty-six years with the Alabama National Guard, primarily in combat engineer units. I retired as a major several years ago. The most notable events for me in the military were leading humanitarian relief efforts along the Mississippi coast after Hurricane Katrina and spending a year in Baghdad at the height of the insurgency.

I am married with three children (Jack, Mallory, and Charlie). My wife, Mary, is a special education teacher serving in another system. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and watching TV with the kiddos.

I feel very fortunate to become a part of the faculty here and look forward to working with each of you.
