Why should your student take a foreign language class?

How can I help my student excel in Spanish class?

You don't have to be able to speak Spanish to help your student succeed in Spanish class.  Here are some simple things that you can do to help your student:

  1. Keep up with your student's progress in class by checking iNOW to review their grades.
  2. Check the calendar - Assessment dates are posted on the class calendar.  Students should be aware of these dates and preparing in advanced.  Homework will be updated on the calendar each night.  One week of homework is approximately equal to a quiz grade, so it is important that students submit this work on time.
  3. To help your child study and find the resources most important to this class click on the "links" tab above.  These will take you and your student to textbook provided resources, practice sites, study tools, and more.
  4. Remind your student to ask questions and use AO wisely.  If they have questions or would like extra practice they are welcome to come on most days.
  5. Practice, practice, practice - The more effort put in, the more your student will get out.  We recommend that students study their notes and practice their Spanish for a minimum of 15 minutes a day.

If your student appears to be struggling with homework (in any class/subject) encourage them to log onto  This is a wonderful (and FREE) website that connects students with live tutors in all content areas, even Spanish!  Tutors are trained and work one-on-one with students until they have a better understanding of the intial question.  Their hours are from 3pm to 10pm and are open on school nights (Sunday-Thursday).
