Finance Academy Application

FINANCE ACADEMY 1-Career Preparedness

The Career Preparedness course focuses on three integrated areas of instruction-academic planning and career development, financial literacy and technology. Course content ranges from college and career preparation to computer literacy skills to ways to manage personal finances and reduce personal risk. The area of technology is designed to be interwoven throughout course instruction. Mastery of the content standards provides a strong foundation for student acquisition of the skills, attitudes, and knowledge that enables them to achieve success in school, at work and across the life span.

FINANCE ACADEMY 2-Banking and Financial Services

Banking and Financial Services is designed to provide students with opportunities to develop skills for solving real-world problems. The curriculum focuses on areas of study that address personal financial planning, financial services, budgeting, investments, insurance protection, credit management, consumer purchases, and consumer rights and responsibilities. Another integral component of the curriculum is the application of decision making skills that enables students to become more responsible consumers, producers or business entrepreneurs. Students get a chance to consider the types of careers in Finance.

FINANCE ACADEMY 3-Accounting

FA3-Accounting is designed to help students understand the basic principles of the accounting cycle. Emphasis is placed on analyzing and recording business transactions; preparing and interpreting financial statements, accounting systems, banking, and payroll activities; identifying basic types of business ownership; and participating in an orientation to careers in accounting. Students are also provided with instructional activities that reinforce mathematical and critical thinking skills.

FINANCE ACADEMY 4-Entrepreneurship/Internship

This course integrates the functional areas of business – accounting, finance, marketing, and management – and the legal and economic environment in which any new venture operates. Designed to provide students with the skills needed to effectively organize, develop, create, and manage a business with an emphasis on real-world entrepreneurs and real businesses. Finance Academy 4 students will complete a 140 hour Internship.

Finance Academy students who meet the following criterion will have the opportunity to join the Spain Park High School National Business Honor Society:

  • Complete three Finance Academy courses
  • Earn a minimum standard GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Earn a minimum 3.5 GPA in FA classes
